At the start of this year, former FCT employee Connor Blakely relocated from Bunbury to Perth with a desire to do everything possible to be drafted.
Although now a bash-and-crash midfielder with the ability to barge through packs and win the ball, Blakely once had trouble finding his niche being a flanker, playing half-back and half-forward.
Finding his niche this year, Blakely played all season in the Swan District’s senior WAFL team averaging 18 disposals in 14 games. The experience has been a good confidence booster for him, playing against AFL-listed opponents and outclassing them.
It was clear during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships that Blakely was a standout. He averaged 21 disposals and seven clearances a games and was name an All-Australian.
FCT is proud of Connor and has watched him grow from small Bunbury footballer just getting his feet to an AFL draft. FCT anticipates the result of the draft and encourages all Connors’ future footballing endeavours.
