Many of the driveways we have seen over the years have been stained or damaged. Most of the time, these scuffs and marks are fairly easy to restore, but only with the right knowledge.

Quick Ways to Remove Tyre Marks

Using household products or specialised cleaning products is one of the easiest ways to remove tyre marks from concrete driveways.

  • An emulsifier and white spirit can be used to remove marks on resin surfaces, while a pressure washer can remove light stains.
  • Degreasers and a brush with stiff bristles are the best ways to remove tyre marks from concrete. You can also use liquid soap as a concrete degreaser; however, make sure to wear rubber gloves.
  • Clean small areas first: Concrete degreasers can help break up the polymer compounds that cause the staining, so we recommend cleaning a small area with one first.

Getting Rid of Skid Marks

  1. If you are cleaning a concrete driveway or concrete floor, start by sweeping the surface. Use a deck brush to clear the area and ensure that there are no small stones, leaves or dirt left that could damage the concrete.
  2. Allow the degreaser to soak into the stains for at least five minutes. This will allow the cleaning product to soak into the marks and begin to lift them. If you have deeper stains or stubborn areas, allow the degreaser to sit for a long period before scrubbing. Repeat this process as necessary and don’t worry if you have to reapply more than once.
  3. To completely remove the rest of the marks from your concrete floor, you must scrub the area after the degreaser has lifted the marks. Brush the concrete or garage floor gently with a bristle brush, making sure to scrub in a circular motion. This is the most effective method for removing tyre marks. Please note that tyre marks can often be stubborn so we recommend wearing rubber gloves for this job.
  4. After you’ve properly cleaned your driveway and removed skid marks, you can remove any remaining degreaser and residue with a power washer or garden hose. If a pressure washer wand is being used, make sure it’s positioned at a 45-degree angle away from people, animals, buildings, or vehicles.

Preventing Tyre Marks on Driveways

Consider sealing your concrete driveway with an acrylic sealer to avoid repeating this process in the future. This protective layer will prevent buildup and staining.

Additionally, you should avoid turning your car’s wheels on your driveway, especially during hot weather, since this friction between your car and the concrete driveway causes most of the marks.
